Giving life to a garden involves knowledge, creativity, commitment and love for nature. After all, as the expression suggests it’s a matter of giving life to something.
The contact with the environment and the dichotomy between man and nature has always been a topic that causes more and more interest and today, it’s becoming part of everyone’s life.
However, what happens when an artist approaches the environment? What kind of wonder is able the meeting between inspiration and landscape to generate?
The masterpiece that comes out of this partnership leaves a permanent mark in the beholders’ eyes and it’s now known as Land Art, a contemporary form of art which is going to be displayed during the first edition of the Radicepura Garden Festival.
Land Art, or Eco Art, appeared for the first time at the end of the 1960s, a period when society and culture were overwhelmed by great changes, and so was art too. The focus, thus, shifted to subjects like nature and the bodies.
Nowadays, art is being produced outside the traditional contexts, as the ultimate purpose of land artists is “to go outside and bring nature into art.” Pencils make room to excavators while earth becomes a piece of paper where to write new stories of complicity between human beings and environment.
The Radicepura Garden Festival is an important showcase where to admire installations of contemporary works by architects, designers, photographers, landscape architects. These “masters of nature” will develop their creations through a dialogue with nature and spaces trying to take care of the surrounding environment and get the best out of it.
The first step toward a full comprehension of the artistic experience, so, is to be as open minded as to be able to see beyond what is clearly shown. Besides, Land Art leads the audience to a fantastic dimension, in that, differently from the past, it becomes a real experience.
Despite the importance of nature for humans, some natural elements have always been underestimated, whereas today these very elements , instead, turn into fundamental components for a successful work of art. Forms of art like this is going to last over times, becoming a tangible evidence of the human activity.
This is a genre of art destined to last over time becoming tangible evidence of human activity.
